Coronavirus: Advertising In Tampa Bay For Small Business Survival

Mar 24, 2020 10:22:41 AM / by Larry Julius

Tampa Bay small business owners are fighting the coronavirus battles on multiple fronts.  Their first objective is to keep their families and employees safe. Then, of course, there are the concerns of keeping their businesses healthy enough to survive current disruptions.

The business literature has an abundance of case studies showing how survival is often connected to a thoughtful communications and marketing strategy during challenging times.

Business owners need to let Tampa Bay consumers know if they are still open. If their hours have changed. Or if they are providing alternative shopping methods (e.g., delivery, curbside pick-up).

Most importantly, it is imperative consumers know that a business will still be there for them when the crisis is over.

For those owners who are depending on communication to preserve their business, the best option may be to advertise on Tampa radio.

Best Way To Advertise Pizza Restaurants In Tampa Bay

Jan 3, 2020 3:30:25 PM / by Larry Julius

Tampa Bay consumers cannot get enough pizza.

In 2012, there were just about 1000 local pizza restaurants. Today, however, that number has grown to 1,139. In 2019, these establishments racked up $534,000,000 in total sales.

Fifty-nine percent of pizza sales in Tampa Bay are rung-up by one of the top-50 chains like Domino's or Pizza Hut. The remaining 41% of revenue is controlled by independent, small business owners.

To compete for a larger share of the pizza pie in the Tampa area requires local restaurant owners to bring in new customers. A proven way to accomplish this is with advertising.

The US Small Business Administration recommends that every Tampa Bay small business advertise consistently.

Advertising on Tampa Radio Stations Delivers For Pizza Restaurant

Mar 26, 2019 3:31:30 PM / by Larry Julius

Hungry Howie's is the 12th largest chain of pizza restaurants in America based on sales volume. The company has 551 locations. Seventy-one of the stores are in the Tampa Bay area.

For the past 33 years, advertising on Tampa radio has helped Hungry Howie's grow from just 20 locations in the Tampa Bay area to 210 throughout the state.

"Our Florida locations outsell all of the other stores across the country," says Barry Devine, founder of Devine Advertising, a St. Petersburg based small business who has been responsible for Hungry Howie's marketing since 1986.

"The only thing we do differently here in Florida," says Mr. Devine, "is we use lots of radio advertising. Far more than the Hungry Howie's locations in other states."
